Texte : The Icelandic government's 2010 budget registers a 34% cut in allocations to the Icelandic Film Fund, taking the budget back to levels similar to 2006, and this despite government promises in 2006 to double the film fund's budget by 2010. In reality, between 2008 and 2009, there was a mere 5% increase.
This has prompted Icelandic filmmakers to meet with Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Minister of Culture, as they argue that 100 jobs in the Icelandic Film Industry are in danger, whilst other cultural domains maintain their 2009 budgets.
The Minister of Culture has claimed that she will amend the proposal prior to the debate in Parliament (November), and that the 34% cut may be due to a "misunderstanding".
