Texte : The Swedish National Defence Radio Establishment (FRA) Act, which came into force on January 1st 2009, was amended on October 13th 2009, introducing controversial changes that some say may go against the European Convention on Human Rights.

According to Swedish newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, these amendments, which entail the conducting of signal surveillance in cables, lead to better protection of the individual citizen's integrity, but other journalists question the statutory source protection and the extent to which the FRA amendments threaten personal privacy.

Opposition parties, including the Social Democrats, the Left Party and the Greens, claim that while the monitoring of telecommunications traffic is important for national security issues (identifying terrorist attcks), the parties believe that the government lacks a solid legal analysis of the field, and have requested a parliamentarian investigation of the case.
